Decktop Pond

A pond in the backyard is a must-have for me, but I move a lot and since I rent, digging up a hole in the yard to install a pond doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.  It never even occurred to me to make an above-ground pond, but luckily I have all these craft blogs I follow that point out the things I don’t think up on my own.  Click here for the how-to.

Poolside Green Tea Mist

Here in Colorado, one of the driest states in the country, there are times where the temperature quickly becomes unbearable.  So how do I manage a little lounge time in the backyard, by the pool or in the park and mountains?  Why with a little mist, my dear fellows!  I had never even thought of using something as great as green tea and now I’m thinking that a little lemongrass oil (amazing for the skin as well) would be great either on its own or along with the green tea in my neon blue mister bottle!  Click here for the recipe.

Most of us know that ladybugs are incredibly helpful around the garden when it comes to the little critters that kill our plants.  What you may not know is that many of the earth friendly anti-pesticides we make and then dump on our gardens can still scare off the helpful little ladybug!  Apartment Therapy has shared with us a simple way of creating a lady bug feeder where the little ladies can hang out when the aphids are scarce since ladybugs will leave an area where there is no food.  Click here for the full post and tutorial!

If you’ve ever planted zucchini, or had an aunt who did, you’re more than familiar with the vast plethora of zucchini related recipes and the bags upon bags of zucchini that you can’t pay anyone to take.  Well mint can be a bit like zucchini in that they both have evil overlord complexes and will quickly take over your garden if you’re not careful!  However, since mint is so easy to grow and so very enjoyable, mint is a great first plant to tackle when starting your first herb garden.  Click here to head on over to Apartment Therapy and read the full post for yourself.
